Medical Equipment (HME) also referred to as durable
medical equipment (DME) is any equipment that provides therapeutic
benefits or enables the person to perform certain tasks that
he or she is unable to undertake otherwise due to certain
medical conditions and/or illnesses. Home Medical Equipment
includes equipment such as wheelchairs, hospital beds, traction
equipment, canes, crutches, walkers, oxygen and other medically
needed items. HME is considered to be equipment which can
withstand repeated use and is primarily and customarily used
to serve a medical purpose. It is generally not useful to
a person in the absence of an illness or injury and is appropriate
for use in the home.
